Painting of Henry VIII

Royal patronage

Stone marking the site of Greenwich Palace

Attribute 6

Maritime Greenwich has been a royal manor since the early 15th century. There are significant associations between Greenwich and individual British monarchs and other members of the Royal family, from the 16th century on. There are many links but 2009, in particular, marked the 500th anniversary of the accession of Henry VIII, born at Greenwich Palace in 1491, which is where the story largely starts.
